FILLED! Sugar Mama Transport AL-NY Sept 30-Oct 1

Well Sugar Mama has gone through her heartworm treatment and is now ready to go to rescue. Many many thanks to those of you who helped her! If you would like to drive a leg of this transport or overnight her Saturday night, please let me know. Note that this transport is for NEXT weekend, Sept 30-Oct 1st.

This is the latest update from her Alabama foster:

Sugar Mama has been delightful to foster.  She is a lovely old girl and will have some good years to share with her new family now that she is healthy.

I’ve had to get 10 cc of liquid worm medicine down her every day and feared it might be a struggle – not so.   She comes and stands patiently while I open her mouth several times and squirt that chalky liquid in for her to swallow.  Yuck!  But she takes it like a champ with no resistance. Good girl!!!

Hi all – Well it’s been 4 weeks now since “Mama’s” hw treatment and she continues to do well.  She’s been on her worm meds now for a week and her stools are normal and she really seems to feel better.  For one thing she is more responsive and comes to me when I call her, rather than hiding under the bushes out back.  Sometimes she even gets a treat when she comes.   And she is getting better about her potty habits too – fewer accidents inside.    If I had to guess I don’t think she was a house dog in her former life, but she has learned to appreciate the inside luxuries – soft beds in a cool/dry house, etc – and she greets me happily and asks to be petted often.  She’ll be ready to move on to her new life and forever home and will be a loyal member of her new family.

Passengers:
Name: Sugar Mama

Breed: blue-tick coon hound

Sex: Female

Altered: No

Age: approx 9 years old

Weight:  47

Dates of vaccinations:  bordetella 9/26/16, parvo-distember 9/26/16

Dates of deworming: Pyrantel: 9/26/16, 10/10/16, 10-18-16, 4/12/17, 5/3/17, 8/2/17    Panacur 3/22/17, 3/23/17, 3/24/17 all at the shelter.    Currently:  Panacur – 10cc/day for 14 days beginning 9/8/17 and Drontal plus large dog – 9/8/17 and 9/22/17

Temperament:  Great – very calm but a little stubborn.  If she doesn’t want to move she puts on her breaks.  She sometimes hides under the bushes and does not come when called.  However, she’s learned that sometimes if she comes she gets a treat – now she does not hide so much.  She can jump the fence, but seems to be very content staying inside now that she’s living the good life.

Special needs: Has completed heartworm treatment recently.  She  still needs to be spayed and a couple of mammary tumors removed.  Latest deworming will be completed with the Sept 22nd doses. She needs heartworm preventative now.  She was given heartguard on 8/19/17 by the vet and I gave her Ivermectin on 9/18/17.  She should be retested for heartworms in 7 months. Dr. Douglas recommended she “rest” for 6 – 10 weeks.   And don’t forget she can easily jump my 4 foot fence – but she stops when I say “NO NO”

THE FINE PRINT: CherryHarley Transports is not a business. I am a volunteer transport coordinator who has a network of volunteer drivers and we assist rescues in their efforts to save death row dogs and place them in approved adoptive homes. All rescues must have proper permits to import dogs and all dogs must have health certificates to cross state lines. Please remember that I am dependent on what the senders tell me about our passengers' temperaments. The very nature of rescue transport creates some risk for those who participate in it; even a good-natured dog may find it stressful to be passed from stranger to stranger and cooped up with unfamiliar dogs and may act in uncharacteristic ways. Neither I nor anyone associated with this transport can accept liability for any accidents or incidents that may occur during the transport. Thank you for understanding and volunteering. Emily Cherry (CherryHarley Transports)
